How To Make Fermented Honey and Garlic 🍯🧄

How To Make Fermented Honey and Garlic  🍯🧄

Honey fermented garlic is a simple, natural remedy that combines the powerful healing properties of both honey and garlic. This mixture has long been praised for its potential to boost immunity, fight infections, and even improve digestion. Plus, it’s an easy addition to any kitchen, whether you're using it for health benefits or as a flavorful ingredient in your cooking.

To make honey-fermented garlic, you’ll need just a few basic ingredients, a bit of patience, and a touch of kitchen magic. Here's how to make it:

Ingredients:

  • 1 bulb of organic garlic (or several, depending on your jar size)
  • Raw, unpasteurized honey (this is key for fermentation)
  • A clean glass jar with a tight-fitting lid

Instructions:

  1. Start by peeling the garlic cloves. You can choose to crush them slightly with the flat side of a knife to release more of their juices, which helps the fermentation process. Be careful not to crush them too hard!
  2. Place the garlic cloves into your clean glass jar. You can add a whole bulb or just a few cloves depending on the jar size and your preference.
  3. Pour raw honey over the garlic, ensuring the cloves are fully submerged. If the garlic is floating, press it down gently with a clean spoon or utensil.
  4. Seal the jar tightly with the lid and store it in a cool, dark place, like a cupboard or pantry. Let it sit for 3 to 4 weeks, shaking the jar gently every few days to mix the garlic and honey together.
  5. After 3 to 4 weeks, the garlic will start to turn soft, and the honey will become thinner as the fermentation process takes place. It will develop a unique, tangy flavor that pairs perfectly with the sweetness of honey.

How to Use It:

  • A teaspoon of honey-fermented garlic can be taken daily to boost your immune system, especially during cold and flu season.
  • Add it to salad dressings, roasted vegetables, or even drizzle it over warm bread for a flavorful twist.
  • You can also use it in smoothies, teas, or as a topping for meats and dishes that need a little extra kick.

⚠ Tips:

  • Always use raw, unpasteurized honey for the fermentation process to work.
  • The garlic will become sweeter and milder as it ferments, so don’t worry about it becoming too pungent.
  • Store your honey-fermented garlic in the fridge after it's been made to help preserve it for longer use.
  • You can reuse the garlic and honey for multiple batches, just add more garlic and honey to the jar as needed.

➡  Safety Tips:

- Ensure the honey is raw and unpasteurized, as pasteurized honey won’t ferment properly.

- Keep the garlic submerged in honey to avoid exposure to air and potential mold growth.

- Always use clean utensils when scooping honey and garlic from the jar to prevent contamination.

- If you notice any mold, off smells, or unusual changes, discard the entire batch.
